NYP: Former Dallas Cowboy Jeff Rohrer living with new hubby, ex-wife, kids

A retired NFL linebacker is redefining the modern family.
Jeff Rohrer, who played for the Dallas Cowboys in the 1980s, lives with his husband, his former wife and their two teenage children, as the unconventional LA-based clan revealed in People magazine Wednesday.
After ending their 17-year marriage in 2011 and living apart for two years, Jeff and his ex, Heather Rohrer, decided to put aside their differences and move back in together for the sake of their daughter, Isabella, now 16, and son, Dondillon, 15.
Then Jeff, 60, got engaged to a man, 37-year-old celebrity aesthetician Joshua Ross, and he came to live with them, too.
“It’s been difficult to get to this place, but it’s worth it,” Heather says in the heartwarming profile.
Jeff, who ended his football career in 1990, admits he had been grappling with his sexuality for years, but it came to a head after he left the NFL. Ultimately, he accepted that he was gay and he and Heather split up.
He came out as the “first known NFL player to marry a man” in the New York Times just days before his wedding to Ross, in November 2018.
“I’m sure there’s going to be some people out there who have a negative reaction to this,” Rohrer said at the time, “and I’m fine with it.”
His children both say they’re fine with their unusual blended family, too.
In fact, even Heather is pleased with the way things have turned out. “We’re choosing to live this way now because we love our kids so much,” she says. “But we’ve decided we may all live together forever.” (Via NYP)

NYP: Cricket player sentenced to five years for sickening rape contest

A cricket player who raped a woman as part of a sick contest with a British teammate to see who could sleep with the most people was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday.
UK Judge Jim Tindal slammed 23-year-old Alex Hepburn for “trivializing” the attack and believing he’s “God’s gift to women” at the sentencing hearing, according to the Guardian.
“You and [teammate] Joe Clarke had agreed to a pathetic, sexist game to collect as many sexual encounters as possible. You probably thought it was laddish behavior at the time. In truth, it was foul sexism,” Tindal fumed in Hereford Crown Court.
“It demeaned women and trivialized rape – a word you personally threw around lightly. Only now do you realize how serious rape is.”
The judge added, “You thought you were God’s gift to women. You did see her at that moment as a piece of meat, not a woman entitled to respect. You scarred both your lives forever.”
During the trial, the victim said she met Clark, Hepburn’s British teammate, at a club the night of the attack in April 2017 and had consensual sex with him.
But Hepburn — an Australian-born all-rounder who played for Worcestershire County Cricket — later slipped into his teammate’s dark bedroom and raped her while Clarke was in the bathroom, according to the paper.
The woman thought it was Clark having sex with her. Then afterward, Hepburn said something to her — in his Australian accent — and the woman realized he wasn’t Clarke and ran sobbing into the street.
On Tuesday, she called the rape “evil” and “heinous,” saying she now suffers from post-traumatic stress.
“I mourn who I used to be. I can’t remember the last time I went anywhere without creating mental escape plans, just in case,” the woman said in court.
She said she is now undergoing therapy and was forced to move back in with her parents.
A WhatsApp message history showed Hepburn had sex with 60 women during the so-called sex “stat game,” according to the paper.
Hepburn was found guilty of oral rape earlier this month. (Via NYP)

Maria McKee: 'Yep, I'm Gay'

As I get to know more people in the community and we share coming out stories there is a degree of shame that comes up for me as a late bloomer. I have been called “a newbie” by some Queer friends which is baffling to me. Does that infer that this is some “choice” I have made later in life? My Queer story is complicated and far reaching. When I was a teen and I told my mother I thought I “like” liked a girl, I was not long after picked up from school by an older friend I looked up to and brought to a meeting where my mother was waiting with her prayer circle to cast demons of homosexuality from me. That same mother trained me to believe that my value as a woman was calibrated by my willingness and ability to be desired by powerful men. I sought men in relationships to feel safe and complete. I stayed faithful in a decades long hetero marriage because I am loyal and I adored my husband and still do. When I began to allow myself the freedom to see beyond that union and developed feelings for and relationships with women, it felt like I was truly loving for the first time. And at this time, masculinity holds very little desire for me. In keeping with the theme of being a late dyke, I am a day late with my #lesbiandayofvisibility post. I suppose because there is a part of me that feels like an interloper. A pansexual identified divorcée plunging headlong into the chapter marked “femme for femme”. But I will say this. If being Queer is about solidarity and community, stretching back beyond 25 years to canvassing the streets for AIDS charities, picking up the slack for friends dying alone when their families abandoned them, extending my family circle to my gay fans above all others and being Queer not being about who you fuck, then I have been and, and always will be, Queer as fuck.

Longtime readers will recall that I have been a huge fan of Maria McKee dating back to the 1980s. It's only in recent years that I've learned about the extent of her loving but dysfunctional relationships with her older half brother, Bryan MacLean of Love fame, and their evangelical mother, Elizabeth. Religion often is at the heart of people's struggles with their sexuality. And as you can read above, Maria is a classic case. So happy she has been able to reach this point in her journey. She's always been a queer ally -- and now we're fortunate to count her as one of our own. xo

P.S. If you want to know more about the family dynamics, read THIS ARTICLE, which was unintentionally unsettling, with nonstop talk of religion; rampant drug abuse; codependency; mental illness; not-so-veiled resentments; lengthy estrangements; and further details of MacLean's abbreviated life including that he appeared in "An Affair to Remember"; auditioned to be one of the Monkees; was advised to pursue acting by Jack Nicholson; was childhood friends with Dino Martin (Dean's son) and Liza Minnelli (Judy's daughter); and other details.

NYP: It’s gotten really ugly for Tim Tebow

Tebow Time has hit the skids in Triple-A.
After 21 games with the Syracuse Mets, Tim Tebow has been missing at the plate, slumping to a .143 batting average and .396 OPS with 27 strikeouts in 70 at-bats.
The 31-year-old outfielder and former NFL quarterback had opened some eyes in 2018, when he hit .273 in 84 games at Double-A Binghamton, but that season ended early with a broken hamate bone in his right hand, and Tebow has been unable to get in a groove since.

“I think for me, it’s to improve every single day, continue to focus on the process, and make strides in every area — [on the] basepaths, outfield, and at the plate, of course,” Tebow told reporters on Monday in Allentown, Pa., before facing the Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate.
Tebow, a former CAA client of Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, is closer than he’s ever been to the big leagues, but will need to start hitting soon if he hopes to get there.
“I think it’s not just about if I make the majors or don’t, I think it’s enjoying what you do, and I think that should be a goal for everyone, actually, is to love what you do,” the former Heisman Trophy winner said. “And that’s why I started playing this in the first place, because it was something that I missed and I wanted to give it a shot.” (Via NYP)
